Where an architectural project begins

The steps before the first sketch: studying the site, the client's brief and building regulations.

Working on an architectural project

A project starts with the site, not the first line. Which side the sun comes from, the prevailing wind, the height of neighbouring buildings and where the entrance will be — all of this is settled before anything is drawn. The next step is the client's real needs: not how many rooms, but which activities happen where during the day. Only then does the sketch stage begin.
