Choosing materials in the Absheron climate
Wind, salty air and sun — the three demands placed on facade materials here.
The first thing to check when choosing a facade material on the Absheron peninsula is salt resistance. Humid air from the sea eats metal details faster than expected, so stainless fixings matter.
Local limestone has been used for centuries and suits the climate, but being porous it needs surface treatment. Concrete, with the right admixtures, lasts well and develops a pleasant patina over time.
The third factor is strong wind: large hung panel systems need more careful calculation here than elsewhere.
